The Huronia Stallions Varsity Football Team improved to 5-2 on the season with a convincing 36-6 victory over the Clarington Knights. The win was even more special because dozens of former players were in attendance to commemorate the team’s 20th Anniversary and to honour the All Two Decade Team. The ceremony at halftime included several of the honorees. Even though many of them are in their late 20s and 30s now, several of them brought their parents, wives and children to observe the ceremony. In game action, Quarterback Tivon Cook completed 12 of 15 pass attempts for 164 yards and three touchdowns. Tristan Huyke threw a 50 yard touchdown pass for his first Stallions touchdown pass. Catching touchdown passes were Connor Maxwell, Eric McCrea and Dan Vandervoort with two. Tailback John Shields had a fine day with 12 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown. The leading tackler was defensive back Kent Jones with 9 solos and 3 assists. The other defensive highlight was Johnny Obdam’s athletic interception. The Stallions finish the regular season this Saturday at 6:30 against the Sudbury Northerners at the Barrie Sports Complex.
The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity Team fell to 1-6 on the season with a hard fought 43-35 loss to the Toronto Junior Argos. Jayden Kelly had three touchdowns with one occurring on a 95 yard kickoff return. Joey Pacheco rushed for a touchdown as did Matt Howe who again was a workhorse with 106 yards rushing. Caleb Nunes led the defense with another strong game. Next up is a trip to Sarnia to finish off the season. The Stallions JV team will be missing the playoffs for the first time since 2001.
